⚖ Compare

The 208 GTB Turbo was unveiled in Turin in 1982 and was Ferrari's first turbocharged road car; the GTS version followed a year later. Like the 208, it was intended for the Italian market, where displacement over two liters faced punitive taxation. The two-liter V8 received a KKK turbocharger with fuel injection, its design heavily influenced by the 126C2 Formula 1 car. Output rose to 220 hp-metric. Externally, it resembled the 308 Quattrovalvole, recognizable by NACA ducts and "turbo" badging. Through 1985, 437 GTB and 250 GTS were built.

Turbo technology

The two-liter V8 received a single KKK K26 turbocharger with a wastegate valve, along with Bosch K-Jetronic and Marelli ignition. At 7000 rpm it produced 220 hp-metric. Ferrari quoted 0–60 mph in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 150 mph. The German source cites 164 kW and 242 km/h for the Turbo.

Exterior and succession

Inside and out, the 208 Turbo was nearly identical to the contemporary 308 Quattrovalvole. It was recognizable by the NACA ducts ahead of the rear wheel arches, "turbo" badging on the rear, and shrouded exhaust pipes. Additional cooling slots in the front spoiler, more louvers on the engine cover, and a cooling vent in the rear bumper were also added. In 1986, the 328-based GTB/GTS Turbo with an intercooler followed.
