Alberto Ascari was an Italian racing driver and the son of Grand Prix star Antonio Ascari. In 1940, he competed in the Mille Miglia in a car provided to him by his father's close friend, Enzo Ferrari. With Ferrari, he won two consecutive Formula 1 World Championship titles, making him the first World Champion in a Ferrari car. He is Ferrari's only Italian World Champion and, alongside Michael Schumacher, one of only two drivers to win back-to-back titles for Ferrari. In total, he won 13 Grands Prix; in 1955, he was killed in an accident during a test drive.
