Lorenzo Bandini was an Italian racing driver, born in Libya and raised in Florence, who initially worked as a mechanic. He caught Enzo Ferrari's eye in Formula Junior, and Ferrari signed him in 1962; he finished third on his debut in a works Ferrari at the Monaco Grand Prix. In 1963, together with Ludovico Scarfiotti, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and in 1964 the Austrian Grand Prix. In 1967, he triumphed with Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Daytona.
