⚖ Compare

The Ferrari 275 P2 was a new design in 1965 with a lower, lighter chassis and a more aerodynamic body. Instead of a classic tubular spaceframe, it had a semi-monocoque chassis made of riveted aluminum panels by Fantuzzi; the rear suspension came from the 158 Formula 1 car. The 3286 cm³ V12 featured quad overhead camshafts and was paired with a new five-speed gearbox; output is quoted at 350 hp. In 1965, 275 P2s won the 1000 km of Monza and the Targa Florio. The following year, the P3 replaced the P2 models.

  • The final outing of a 275 P2 came in August 1965: Giampiero Biscaldi finished third at the Ollon-Villars hill climb.

Technical details

The 275 P2 no longer used a classic tubular spaceframe. As on the Formula 1 cars since 1963, Fantuzzi produced a semi-monocoque chassis made of riveted aluminum panels; the rear suspension came from the Ferrari 158 Formula 1 car. Unlike the earlier 275 model, it featured wider wheels and tubeless Dunlop racing tires. The new V12 had quad overhead camshafts, six Weber twin-choke carburetors, and two spark plugs per cylinder. Rated output was 350 hp at 7200 rpm, with power delivered via a newly developed five-speed gearbox.

The 1965 season

The 275 P2 made its first run in April 1965 at the Le Mans test day. Its first race two weeks later, the 1000 km of Monza, ended in victory for Mike Parkes and Jean Guichet. Another two weeks after that, Nino Vaccarella and Lorenzo Bandini won the Targa Florio. At the Nürburgring, Parkes and Guichet were beaten only by teammates John Surtees and Ludovico Scarfiotti in the more powerful 330 P2.
