⚖ Compare

The 365 GTC and the 365 GTS replaced the 330 GTC and GTS in 1968. At its core, it was a new engine in a proven car: 4.0 liters and 300 PS became 4.4 liters and 320 PS. The appearance remained almost identical, with only the air vents moving from behind the front wheels to the hood. Because the gearbox and final drive were integrated together, the weight was distributed 50:50. 168 units of the coupe were produced through 1970, and only 20 of the Spider.

Good to know

  • The "C" in GTC stands for Coupé; written out, the car is called "Grand Tourismo Coupe."
  • Of the 168 coupes built, 22 were right-hand drive.
  • The bodywork of both cars still dates back to the 500 Superfast; the German source refers to a gentle facelift.
  • The brakes were power-assisted discs all around with a split braking circuit.

Engineering

Like all 365 models, the GTC and GTS featured the 4390 cm³ Colombo V12, here in the Tipo 245/C variant. Three Weber 40 DFI twin carburetors fed it, producing an output of 320 PS at 6600 rpm. Because the gearbox and final drive were integrated together, weight distribution was a balanced 50:50. The car adopted the independent rear suspension with coil springs and wishbones from its predecessor, as well as the power-assisted disc brakes with split circuit fitted all around.

Classification

The cars were intended as sportier variants of the 365 GT 2+2 and the California cabriolet. Over 170 units were sold, including 20 Spiders. The chassis numbers of the coupe range between 11823 and 12795, those of the Spider between 12163 and 12493. The GTC was replaced by the 365 GTC/4, while the Spider made way for the Daytona Spider based on the 365 GTB/4.
