⚖ Compare

In 1956, Pinin Farina built a special series of just four coupés for wealthy clients on a bespoke Tipo 513 chassis. Styled after the 410 Superamerica, the coachwork looks more muscular than that of sister models, though the wheelbase is 200 mm shorter. Under the hood worked a Tipo 128 Colombo V12 producing 240 PS. As bespoke builds, the cars featured distinctive touches such as custom gauges, a telescoping steering wheel, or dual fuel tanks with two filler necks. One of them was displayed at the 1956 Geneva Motor Show.

Good to know

  • The last of the four cars, painted in light Celeste blue, was delivered new to King Mohammed V of Morocco.
  • The second car went to Emmanuele Nasi of the Agnelli family, who worked as a director at Fiat.
  • Only the third car (0467GT) featured side fender vents like those on the 410 Superamerica.
  • Due to its close resemblance to the 410 Superamerica, some sources name that model instead for the 1956 Geneva Motor Show.

Origin

The standard 250 GT Coupé was built under contract by Boano. However, Ferrari sent several chassis to Pinin Farina, where custom coachwork was created. Four of them received styling in the vein of the 410 Superamerica, which looked more muscular than the sister models. As previously on the Europa GT, the distance between the front wheel arch and the A-pillar was shortened while retaining the rest of the lines. In Geneva in 1956, a Speciale stood alongside the first prototype of the Boano coupé.

Engineering

The Speciale was built on a dedicated chassis bearing the type designation 513, unique within the model line. The chassis setup was nearly identical to that of the Boano coupés: coil springs up front, and parallel trailing arms with semi-elliptical leaf springs at the rear. A four-speed manual transmission and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes were standard on all coupés of this era. Propulsion was provided by a Tipo 128 Colombo V12 delivering 240 PS.

The four cars

The first car, 0463GT, was completed in April 1956 and delivered in July to John von Neumann, the Ferrari distributor for California. The second, 0465GT, was sold to Emmanuele Nasi, a member of the Agnelli family and Fiat director. Car 0467GT was the only one with side fender louvers; its first owner was Fernando Galvao of Lisbon. The last, 0469GT in light Celeste blue, was delivered new to King Mohammed V of Morocco.
