The Portofino is a 2+2 gran turismo with an aluminum retractable hardtop that opens electrically in 14 seconds. Ferrari displayed it in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show; the name evokes the village of Portofino on the Italian Riviera. It replaces the California T, the marque's previous V8 gran turismo, and relies on a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The Roma was developed on its basis, whose open-top version later replaced the Portofino.

Chassis and weight
The chassis is composed of 12 different aluminum alloys, with many components now integrated. Hollow castings increase rigidity by 35 percent compared to the California T. Engineers saved weight in the drivetrain, dashboard support structure, air conditioning and heating system, and electronics; the result is a curb weight of 1664 kg, 80 kg less than its predecessor. The dampers are electronically controlled and contain metal particles in the oil whose fluid behavior can be altered via a magnetic field.
The engine
The 3.9-liter turbocharged V8 originates from the California T. In the Portofino, it produces more power thanks to reprogrammed engine management, new connecting rods and pistons, and a modified intake system. In September 2020, the Portofino M followed, with output increased further thanks to features including new cam profiles, and equipped with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Presentation and markets
Following the evenings in Portofino on September 7 and 8, 2017, the car was shown on September 9 and 10 in Maranello during the 70th anniversary celebration. In Japan, there was a private preview in November, with the official debut following in February 2018; prices there started at 25,300,000 yen, and in the US at 215,000 dollars. In Hong Kong, where it was presented in late March 2018, pricing began at 3.5 million HK dollars. The Chinese model features a simplified Chinese menu.
