⚖ Compare

The Monza SP1 and SP2 launched the "Icona" series in 2018: limited special editions inspired by classic Ferraris. The design evokes the 750 Monza, the 250 Testarossa, and the 166 MM, with the number in the name indicating the number of seats. Mechanically, the cars are based on the 812; the naturally aspirated 6496 cm³ V12 produces 596 kW at 8500 rpm. This made them the most powerful road-going V12 Ferraris until the 812 Competizione. A total of 499 units were built at 1.58 million euros before options.

Good to know

  • Instead of a windshield, the cars use the patented "Virtual Windshield" system designed to deflect airflow away from the driver.
  • Airdomes sit behind the seats, also serving as roll bars, similar to the Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss.
  • In 2020, the Ferrari Styling Centre received the Compasso d'Oro for the Monza SP1; Flavio Manzoni and Jane Reeve accepted the award.
  • All Monza models are painted at Carrozzeria Zanasi in Maranello.

Design

The low-slung carbon-fiber speedster body is modeled after early post-war sports racers like the 166 MM, the 250 Testarossa, and the 750 Monza. The SP1 is a single-seater with the driver positioned to one side, while the SP2 has two seats separated by a central section. Both feature small scissor doors; the large clamshell body panel is made possible by the strength of the composite material. A small aeroscreen is fitted on the passenger side of the SP2.

Technical details and performance

Both models use a variant of the naturally aspirated V12 from the 812 Superfast, tuned to 596 kW at 8500 rpm and 719 Nm at 7000 rpm—7.4 kW more than in the 812. The chassis is loosely based on the 812. The SP1 weighs 3306 lb, while the SP2 is 45 lb heavier. Ferrari claims 2.9 seconds from 0 to 97 km/h, 7.9 seconds to 200 km/h, and a top speed of over 300 km/h.
